Average, exceptional or the high profile ‘go to’ – which type of therapist do you aspire to be?
It’s probably not a question you would normally think to ask yourself when you set out in your new career, but it’s this very question students are confronted with in a class at BellDonLaqua Istituto.
At BellDonLaqua Istituto we strive for excellence in every area of our work life – God knows it’s where we spend most of our day – and it’s a value we instil in all of our students.
Whether it be a service, product knowledge, general knowledge or practical application skills, we make sure you’re never caught out performing anything below outstanding.
In my 11 years in the beauty and cosmetic industry, I have worked alongside pretty much everyone including apprentices, beauticians, beauty therapists, dermal clinicians, registered nurses and even celebrity assistants.
I’ve witnessed client complaints from sub par service and inept therapists far too many times to count.
It’s disappointing to see how many unqualified, uninterested therapists are out there.
At BellDonLaqua Istituto, we know going above and beyond your client’s expectations will reap enormous dividends – I promise, if you are a true professional at work, you’ll have no end of lifelong clients.
Today, like many other industries, the beauty business has become highly competitive. Not only are there countless salons to choose from, there’s also the option to buy many products and services on the internet.
The beauty industry is also changing – people want results rather than relaxation. This has seen a rise in popularity of ‘clinics’ offering such services as treating skin imperfections and delaying the ageing process though the use of medical machinery.
The line between doctors and therapists is becoming increasingly blurred – clients want a holistic approach to treatments, right through from pre-preparation to post-procedure care.
So what efforts and actions are necessary to qualify as the next highly sought after therapist?
I don’t believe it is enough to leave beauty college with high grades and get a job in an A-grade salon for a rewarding career to happen. It’s when you leave college that the real education and hard work begins!
The advice I pass onto my students is to always be hungry for knowledge – continue to learn every day and be passionate about your area of interest.
Remember that being a great beauty therapist requires a lot of hard work – but it is also extremely enjoyable and rewarding.
Be a leader in your field and success and money will follow.
And always, always strive for excellence!
